Tennis & Friends: Free Orthopaedic Medical Check-ups at the Health Village

With Professor Cosimo Tudisco, UniCamillus lecturer and SIOT coordinator of the event

The 13th edition of “Tennis & Friends – Health and Sport” is here, an event promoted by the Friends For Health non-profit organisation which will take place over the weekend from October 13th to 15th at the Foro Italico in Rome.

The opening day will be dedicated to visits from primary and secondary schools. On Saturday and Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., two activities will take place simultaneously: sports and entertainment personalities will compete on the tennis and paddel tennis, while at the same time free orthopaedic medical check-ups will be carried out for citizens in the Health Village inside the Foro Italico, coordinated by ASL Roma 1.

The specialised visits will be concentrated on eight “Prevention Islands” stands dedicated to different branches of orthopaedics: osteoporosis, foot, knee, spine, shoulder, elbow, hand and paediatrics.
There will be 30 orthopaedic specialists available, all members of the SIOT (Società Italiana di Ortopedia e Traumatologia). Among them is Professor Cosimo Tudisco, Full Professor of Locomotive System Diseases in the Faculties of Medicine and Surgery and Physiotherapy at UniCamillus, and SIOT coordinator for the event.

“Since time immemorial, the words ‘sport’ and ‘health’ have been regarded as synonyms for well-being and a good quality of life,” says Tudisco. “Physical activity improves physical well-being, just as good health enables better sporting performance. Therefore, the role of the specialist is the pivot that can ensure the proper functioning of this reciprocity, with the primary objective of improving the health of the community through sport. In this regard, the SIOT is seizing the opportunity offered by Tennis & Friends to provide the best specialists for free orthopaedic check-ups and, if necessary, therapeutic advice. We hope that this initiative will also produce useful results in terms of educating people about conscious sporting activities aimed at overall physical well-being.”

UniCamillus will be present at the event with its own stand, as a medical university supporting the event’s mission to raise awareness of the importance of physical activity and exercise for longevity and health. Our University Guidance experts will be available to meet anyone who would like to get to know us and find out about our courses.
