Biography

Degree in Biology and Medicine and Surgery, Graduate School in Food Science, PhD in Biochemistry.

Habilitated as Full Professor of Biochemistry in the 2018 Scientific National Habilitation (ASN).

Permanent position as Senior Researcher at CNR-SCITEC – Istituto di scienze e tecnologie chimiche “Giulio Natta” (c/o Ist. Biochimica Università Cattolica di Roma).

Research activity is currently aimed at the study of some degenerative diseases in cell culture models. In particular, the cell lines used are representative of neuronal lines (neuroblastoma, glioma, pheochromocytoma) and pigmented retinal epithelium. The pathologies under investigation are Alzheimer’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis and age-related macular degeneration, all characterized by an increase in oxidative potential at the cellular level. My study aims to test some potentially antioxidant molecules, both of natural and synthetic origin. The characterization of the molecular mechanisms is focused in particular on mitochondria (membrane potential, cellular respiration, release of cytochrome C, mitochondrial DNA) and on the NRF2 / OH axis which is the basis of cellular control mechanisms (inflammation-oxidation-apoptosis)

Author of over 70 publications in international journals.
