Graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Catania (score 110/110 cum laude).
Specialist in Internal Medicine.
Current position: Associate Professor of Occupational Medicine and Director of the specialization school in Occupational Medicine at the University of Rome Tor Vergata.
His research is focused on health and environmental effects of nanotechnologies and on work related diseases.
He is member of the advisory editorial board of several international Journals.
He is currently (and has also been in the past) Principal Investigators of research projects supported by  public and private sponsors; in particular, he is currently Principal Investigator of the partner University of Tor Vergata of two research projects financed by the European Commission in the framework Horizon 2020.
He is author/coauthor of 136 peer reviewed papers (Impact factor: 409 (Science Citation Index edition 2016), citation number: 2374; H-index: 25).
He is National Secretary of the Italian Society of Occupational Medicine (SIML).
