Course Director: Prof. Simone Peschillo
The endovascular treatment of cerebral and spinal vascular diseases has greatly increased over the last few years. Although the volume of open aneurysm surgery is declining, complex aneurysms still require open microsurgery, often with bypass techniques: intracranial arterial reconstructions with reimplantations, reanastomoses, in situ bypasses, and intracranial bypasses and augment conventional extracranial-intracranial techniques are increasingly used. The best vascular neurosurgeons will be needed to tackle the complex lesions that cannot be managed with other modalities.
At the same time, the unprecedented expansion of endovascular techniques has led to a need to educate neurosurgical residents in the application of endovascular therapies. The future of neuroendovascular surgery is therefore inseparable from the future of vascular neurosurgery. In fact, they are one and the same.
Residents interested in the vascular disease processes that affect the central nervous system must understand the application of neuroendovascular techniques and if they want to treat these pathologies must be adequately trained in their implementation. The ability to effectively apply or perform endovascular techniques in neurosurgical practice requires formal fellowship training.
To remain at the forefront of evaluating, caring for, and treating patients with cerebrovascular disease, vascular neurosurgery must evolve toward a specialty, mastering the knife as well as the catheter.
The Course is designed to fulfil not only educational but also caring requirements; in particular, this is focused on microsurgery or endovascular treatment of brain and spine vascular malformations.
The fellow will choose a European Hosting Center where she/he will be trained in open microvascular or neuroendovascular surgery. There will be 150 hours of theoretical lessons and simulations and 800 hours of practical training. The international faculty consists of world renowned vascular and endovascular neurosurgeons that will provide insights into their clinical activities and experiences.
The Course is targeted to Neurosurgeons interested in developing a real professional basis in the field of microsurgery and endovascular treatment of cerebral and spinal pathologies: residents in Neurosurgery PGY 4 or 5 with interest in vascular or endovascular procedures or young specialists are welcome.
The international faculty consists of world renowned vascular and endovascular neurosurgeons that will be happy to provide insights into their clinical activities and experiences. Case volume and case mix are the secrets of success because they develop experience, efficiency, and confidence: for those reasons, this Master program will be host in some of the best Centers in Europe:
Start date: 1st March 2024
Location: Headquarters of the lectures will be the UniCamillus-Saint Camillus International University of Health Sciences, Rome, Italy. Some lessons can also be held online via videoconference.
The Master’s Program lasted 12 months with 8hrs of theoretical lessons and simulators and 30hrs/week for vocational training.
The frequency of 85% of the activities included in the Program entitles you to the certificate of attendance and allows the possible recognition of 60 CFU (university formative credits) In the event of non-attendance, or other behavior that is in any case reprehensible, the Director may decide not to issue the certificate of attendance for the Advanced Training Course.
The maximum number of participants will be 10. Could be increased, in case of new hosting Centers.
The lectures will be held by national and international teachers who work in centers of the highest European, American, South American, Indian and Japanese levels.
Headquarters of the lectures will be the UniCamillus-Saint Camillus International University of Health Sciences, Rome, Italy. Some lessons can also be held online via videoconference.
Within the training activities, there is a didactic / practical training internship in one of these institutions:
The Program Director is Simone Peschillo
The Honorary Director is Guido Guglielmi
Candidates in possession of the following qualifications can participate in the Master:
Residents in Neurosurgery PGY 4 or 5 with interest in vascular or endovascular procedures or young specialists in Neurosurgery are welcome.
Candidates in possession of degrees earned abroad, equivalent for duration and contents to the Italian degree required to access the Master can apply as well.
In the latter case, candidates must provide Declaration of Value, issued by the Italian Consular Authority of the country of study (together with “Transcript of Records” + duplicate of final degree) or CIMEA Statements of Comparability along with CIMEA Statements of Verification (through CIMEA platform) or Diploma Supplement (in case of European Degrees) issued by the University of origin and legalized by the Italian Embassy of the country of study.
Candidates not having or not presenting adequate qualifications pursuant to current regulations within 3 months, forfeit their enrolment if already admitted and have no right to refunds of any amount paid to the University.
In case of lacking of the aforementioned requirements, Didactic Administrative Office can exclude candidates from the Master at any time and with a justified provision.
When the maximum number of members is exceeded, a selection will be made to form a ranking.
The application must be submitted via the GOMP student portal following instructions given in the GUIDE by 30th September 2023.
In order to complete your application, you will need to provide the following documents, which will be attached to the portal during the procedure:
For candidates with qualifications equivalent/equivalent to those required:
– Dichiarazione di Valore in Loco issued by the Italian Consular Authority of the country of study (accompanied by transcript of records + copy of the final diploma) or CIMEA Certificate of Comparability accompanied by CIMEA Certificate of Verification (by accessing the CIMEA platform) or Diploma Supplement (if it is a European qualification) issued by the University of origin and legalised at the Italian Embassy of the country of study. Students who submit incomplete documentation will be admitted with reservation and cannot complete their enrolment until all the required documentation has been submitted.
Conditional enrolment will not be accepted due to incomplete documentation or incorrect entry of data on the application form.
Following admission, candidates will have to follow the enrolment procedure following the indications provided in the appropriate guide, which will be sent by email together with the notification of admission to the Master’s course.
Registration fee for this Master course is € 6.500,00 plus € 50,00 for secretarial fees (including enrolment stamp duty and degree certificate issue stamp duty) to be paid at the time of registration and in any case within 30/09/2023.
Failure in paying the fee by the deadline will result in suspension of access to the platform and in non-admission to the final exam. Interruption of any kind in students’ attendance to lessons and didactic activities does not exempt them from paying the remaining installments.
RIGHT TO RECONSIDER – Within 14 (fourteen) days from the date of payment, students may exercise the right to reconsider. As a consequence, students unilaterally waive from
their enrolment by explicitly communicating to UniCamillus their willing to waive. This request should be sent by certified email (CEM) to email@example.com.
In case of exercising this right to reconsider, UniCamillus will proceed to refund the paid amount within the following 14 (fourteen) days – withholding an amount of 5% of the paid sum for secretarial services – using the same means of payment previously employed by the User, unless expressly indicating a different means of payment.
Except for mandatory cases, expressly stated in this announcement, no refund will be made under any circumstances.
RIGHT TO WAIVE STUDIES – By exercising the right of abandonment or waiver of studies, students will no longer have access to any educational activity and/or qualification to use the tools UniCamillus puts at their disposal.
Students wishing to waive must submit a waiver application using an online procedure. They must access the student portal (GOMP) with their credentials, visiting the “careers> applications> study waiver application” section.
In case of waiver, the amounts paid until the moment of presentation of the waiver request will not be reimbursed under any circumstances.
Students who waive or abandon their studies after the beginning of classes are required to pay the whole amount of fees.
