The final aim of the Master is to provide dental hygienists with the correct approach and the specific knowledge for the different patient’s typologies treatment plans.
In the periodontal field, the dental hygienist plays a fundamental role; the professional must be endowed with the knowledge of the microbiological aspects and of the many technological innovations in order to ensure an accurate and focused treatment.
The partner of the Master’s Degree is the Istituto Stomatologico Toscano.
UniCamillus divides the education courses – 1st and 2nd level Master’s Degree and High Specialization Courses – in the following classes:

Attendance is required for at least 75% of the total amount of the hours of the Master. Lectures and seminars take place one weekend per month. Traineeship schedule is to be arranged in accordance with the host entity.
Places available
The minimum number to start the course is 10. If less than 10 eligible candidates enroll in the program, UniCamillus can decide to not start the course (enrolment fees that have been already paid, will be refunded).
The maximum number of places available in the course is 50.
Within the specific professional field, the objective of the Master is to provide with theoretical and practical competencies on the issues faced by the dental hygienist.
The traineeship will be carried out at Istituto Stomatologico Toscano according to a schedule defined at the beginning of the course.
The Master’s Degree didactic program has the following modules:
1st MODULE: BIOLOGICAL BASIS OF THE PERIODONTAL TISSUES (2 ECTS)
Biology of the periodontal tissues and etiology of the periodontal disease
Analysis on the tissues’ matters around the natural teeth and the dental implants
Technologies and the web at the dental hygienist’s disposal and their role for the diagnosis
2nd MODULE: NON-SURGICAL PERIODONTAL TREATMENT AND DEFINITION OF THE PERIODONTAL DISEASE (2 ECTS)

Potentially malignant disorders: why the gums keep bleeding

3rd MODULE: RESEARCH AND THE NEW FRONTIERS FOR THE PATIENT WITH PERIODONTAL AND PERI-DENTAL IMPLANTS ISSUES (2 ECTS)

The evolution in the definition of the periodontal and peri-dental implant related diseases
Clinical indexes of periodontal status and assessment of the risk profile of the patient with periodontal and peri-dental implant related diseases
4th MODULE: PATIENT’S ANAMNESIS RELATED TO THE ORAL HEALTH (2 ECTS)
Motivate and prepare the patient as a collaborative party in the treatment; communication strategy at the dentist’s office
House technology tools and what the patient needs to know in order to correctly keep the result; clarifications on the products in the market
Osteoporosis following the menopause and its effects on the alveolar bone
5th MODULE: THE USE OF THE TECHNOLOGY AVAILABLE TO THE DENTAL HYGIENIST TO TREAT THE INFLAMMATION WITH A MINI-INVASIVE APPROACH (2 ECTS)

The use of technology in the research for a mini-invasive approach (Ozone therapy)

Molar Incisor Hypomineralisation (MIH) and enamel damages: remineralization techniques
Periodontal issues in the patient under orthodontics treatment
Course: theory and practice for the dental photography
7th MODULE: RE-ACTIVE AND PRO-ACTIVE THERAPY (2 ECTS)
Prosthesis on dental implants: typologies and the role of the dental hygienist for the long-term conservation
Diagnostic analysis for the patient with periodontal issues: X-ray and objective examination

The University reserves the right to admit candidates in possession of a different degree, nonetheless pertinent to the Master’s didactic objectives.
The admission to the Master is subject to a selection procedure and to a ranking based on merit, after the screening of the candidates’ CVs. In case of a tie in the last position of the ranking, the younger candidate prevails.
If one or more candidates renounce the place, the list will be scrolled down.
